How many bags do you have?

Handbag Amnesty and UK’s leading aid organization devoted to cancer study, Cancer Research UK joined together and have both something in common: They help to beat cancer. In my own simple way, I am here to help and spread the word about this cause and I hope it will make a difference.

Handbag Amnesty is asking everybody’s participation! If you have some bags, which you are willing to let go, why not drop those bags into your local cancer research UK shop. All the bags that will be collected will be auctioned on eBay from Oct 13 to 14 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you are outside UK, you can still support this charity by going to your eBay account, sell your bag and pick a fraction of the bag’s selling value to make a contribution to Cancer Research UK.

As far as any one could remember, women served as support to families and their respective husbands. During times of war and strife, a woman’s role is to stay at home and tender to those in need. Reality has indeed been harsh and cruel, providing women with fewer opportunities to display acts of leadership and heroism. Maybe this is due to the lack of physical qualities that most men possessed; strength, vigor and endurance. Typically, women are viewed as a weaker form of gender. Their purpose is better served as relief physically and emotionally. A modern woman during those times is expected to posses the following ideals: Piety, Purity, Submissiveness and Domesticity.

The modern women during the 19^th century were viewed as the new “Eve” working with God to bring the world out of sin and suffering. Further, at those times a woman’s purity was highly revered. One woman without such is considered lower than low, not deserving love and compassion from others. In addition, women at those times were just to be bystanders, watching as men move life. They are to submit to duty, to God and to men. Finally, a woman’s place was in homes, tied to duties that would uplift her piety and purity. Keeping homes a cheerful and happy place to keep men away from the evils of the worlds.

On the surface, this would seem really unfair. Being denied the chance to compete in planes of achievement against her counterpart is shocking, and lately we have seen developments of newly emancipated women rising to the challenge. Bringing about her capacities to show the world her abilities and merits, and be accepted as an equal.

Education and the likes are never bad. The myth that men are superior to women should be disposed. In reality, a woman’s superiority is seen through her motherly nature.

We should strive to preserve it as such and be reminded that motherhood is a victory unto itself.
